We received this note from our 2012 RDC Scholarship winner Gary Corsiglia…and Gary looked pretty quick out there.
.
Thank you, Thank you, Thank you. I can’t say it enough to the RDC board for awarding me the 2012 Drivers School Scholarship and what a fantastic time I had at Thunderhill Raceway. A physical, mental and rewarding way to spend my birthday weekend. Thank you to Mike Smith, Michell Hemus and Robert Sherod for the use of M&L Racing’s Miata #91 and keeping the car in great running condition. Thank you Bryan Nemy, co-driving student, for bringing the car off the track from the Group 1 sessions in the same condition it entered. Thank you instructors for sharing your knowledge and encouragement. Thank you fellow students for providing challenging dices during our Sunday sessions. Thanks to all the corner workers, emergency crews, for enduring the cold winds. Thank you Registration, T&S, Social, and Stewards for all that you do to allow us to race.
And finally Thank you to my wife Brigit who keeps telling me to “Go out and play in the traffic.”
See you at the track.
Gary Corsiglia

We welcome the Spec E30 class to the San Francisco Region, and invite you to become members of the RDC. In the tab at left, we have added a link to the SpecE30.com discussion board. The Racing Drivers’ Club and the Northern California racing community yesterday lost George Ott, past RDC President and long time member. Our hearts go out to his wife Lois and to his family. 2012 schedule 12-20-11 Here are recently approved changes to the schedule for 2012. The big change is that the RDC Enduro is again at Laguna Seca as part of a Double Regional! Note that the Region is looking at some potential format changes but these dates and venues are looking solid. The RDC is pleased to announce that this years winner of the RDC Drivers Scholarship is Gary Corsiglia. We received some wonderful applications this year and the decision is always the toughest of the year, but Gary has a club history dating as far back as 1973. The scholarship will cover his tuition, and includes the use of a prepped car to attend the February school. We want to encourage everyone who applied to reconsider again next year. We are so pleased to be able to offer it, and just wish it was possible to grant everyone’s wish. One thing we can do, is to say again how much we appreciate the contribution you all made to the Region this season; We hope to see everyone in the Spring. Here are a couple of site changes just up: 1) Dues reduction for Associate and Spouse Members. Because we now send out our monthly Newsletter “Drivers Meeting” as an email in electronic format, it’s now possible to have every Worker be a member of the RDC for…..free! All you need to do, is go to the “Join RDC” tab above, download the new 2012 form, send it in, and you’re all set. 2) Newsletter part of RDC page. Check out the revised content for “Drivers Meeting” above. We now have the monthly newsletter incorporated into this site. That’s in addition to your receiving it as an email. Check out the RDC Enduro photos and write up in this month’s letter. The official word from National about how they will treat the requirement for a HANS device for this upcoming 2012 season is just in. Check the language of the Tech Bulletin (of course) but in essence: 1) You must wear an approved head and neck device this year to race. 2) The device must have an FIA and/or SFI certified sticker. If your existing device does not have that sticker (usually means it was purchased before 2006) then you must send it in to get an SFI certification label to race this season. 3) National is NOT requiring it to be RE-certified if it has a label but is at or beyond a five year period (assuming your device has a date of manufacturer) at least for this season. That may change but National has said this is official for now. Again, our recommendation is that you verify this with the GCRs (Fastrack tab is at top there) but also that you keep monitoring this issue as there are language discrepancies between SFI and the just issued Tech Bulletin. The Bulletin will be what our Scrutineers will be enforcing. If you have not sent in your existing non-labeled HANS yet, now is the time to get it in before the rush. Season Final points are up and posted. Thanks to all who participated with the RDC this season. The Board will be working over the winter to make the ’12 Season an even better experience for the Norther California Racing Community. See you all at the track soon! The Event Schedule has just been published…and here it is! Check the tab at left for the “Official” Supps for the 2011 RDC Illegin 4 hour Enduro at Thunderhill this year. Stay tuned for updated registration procedures. Drivers, and especially new drivers, there is no better (and no cheaper per racing minute) way to finally learn the secrets of a track than settling down for a long session enduro rhythm driving. Find a friend; form a team. Thanks to Chris Cox of our Autox program for tipping us off to the secret path for leaving Laguna Seca on any Sunday without having to slog thru all of the 101 traffic. Use Highway 1 north until Watsonville and take eastbound Highway 129 (thru Watsonville) to re-connect with 101 PAST the perpetual traffic jamb. It works! And it works WITH a trailer. Even this last weekend after ALMS-Thank you Chris! |
